How Robert Timms Stays Lean Year-Round While Still Building Muscle

Most competitors put on significant weight once the show is over. Robert Timms does things differently: through his offseason he stays roughly 5–7 pounds above stage weight while continuing to train, recover and build quality muscle. Here is how he describes getting there, in his own words, alongside what the published research does and does not establish about the compounds he names.

The athlete

Robert Timms does things differently

Most competitors gain significant weight once the show is over. Robert stays close to contest condition instead, holding roughly 5–7 pounds above his stage weight while he keeps training, recovering and adding quality muscle.

His foundation never changes, and he puts it ahead of everything else:

  • Consistent, progressive training
  • A structured nutrition plan
  • Proper sleep and recovery
  • A disciplined, health-focused lifestyle
  • A genuine passion for bodybuilding

In his words

“It feels like a cheat code sometimes”

“It feels like a cheat code sometimes. When you combine all the cornerstones — training, nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, and genuine passion — these are the cherry on top. I would be lying if I said they weren’t helping me. I don’t feel like I have to diet nearly as aggressively to maintain my condition.”

— Robert Timms

Peptides are not a replacement for those fundamentals. Robert describes them as the finishing touch on work that was already being done.

Multi-pathway metabolic research

Retatrutide

Retatrutide is an investigational triple-receptor agonist that acts on the GLP-1, GIP and glucagon pathways. Clinical research is evaluating its potential effects on appetite, glucose regulation, energy balance and body weight.

For Robert, the stated goal is not a lower number on the scale. It is the structure and appetite control that holding near stage condition through an offseason demands.

Regulatory status: retatrutide is investigational and is not FDA-approved.

Mitochondrial and metabolic research

MOTS-c

MOTS-c is a naturally occurring mitochondrial-derived peptide studied for its potential role in cellular energy regulation, metabolic signalling and exercise adaptation.

Early research has explored its relationship with AMPK activity, glucose metabolism and mitochondrial function. Much of that evidence remains preclinical, and its safety and effectiveness for fat loss in humans have not been established.

Growth-hormone signalling

Tesamorelin

Tesamorelin is a growth hormone-releasing hormone analog that stimulates the body’s own production of growth hormone.

It is FDA-approved for reducing excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Use for general fat loss or physique enhancement falls outside that approved indication and requires careful evaluation by a licensed medical professional.

The real stack

No compound replaces the work

Robert’s results come from disciplined training, precise nutrition, intentional recovery and consistency held over years. Any medically supervised therapy is one component inside that larger system, not a substitute for it.

The goal is not to avoid effort. It is to make every part of the plan work together.
